The Social Science Department consists of Religious Studies, Psychology, Sociology, and Health and Social Care.
We aim to challenge learners to debate and apply their own knowledge to the curriculum.
Health and Social Care
We teach the OCR Cambridge National specification to KS4 students. There are three units, which are taught over two years. These include: Principles of care, supporting individuals through life events and creative activities.
Psychology
We teach the AQA specification (linear A level) to students. All are entered for the AS exams and then for the A2 exams if they continue. We are the largest subject in sixth form; currently 132 lower sixth students and 68 upper sixth students. Students receive 9 taught hours per fortnight in the subject from 2 specialist teachers.
Religious Studies
During Key Stage 3, our teaching of Religious Education offers pupils: encounters with people from different religious, non-religious, cultural and philosophical groups, who can express a range of convictions on religious and ethical issues...
Sociology
We follow the Eduqas curriculum, which focuses on: Culture and Socialisation, Research Methods, Family, Education, Crime and Deviance. Learners tend to really enjoy the subject, which will be new to them at year 10. It can be difficult to learn all of the key terms and structure the long-mark questions though!
