Expanding Chromebook Options for Key Stage 4 Students

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are incredibly proud of the success of our Chromebook for Learning scheme, which has transformed the way students engage with learning across Key Stage 3. The consistent use of Chromebooks by our Year 7 to 9 students has enhanced collaboration, improved access to learning, and supported our commitment to preparing learners for a digital future.

As students transition into Key Stage 4 and begin their GCSE studies, we recognise that individual learning styles and preferences evolve. We have listened to feedback from both students and parents who have asked for greater flexibility and choice in the devices they use.

Students can still join the Chromebook scheme if you would like a fully covered device:

In response, we are pleased to announce that from September 2025, in addition to continuing our existing Chromebook purchase scheme and using decives already purchased, students in Years 10 and 11 will also be able to Bring Your Own Chromebook (BYOC), provided the device meets our safeguarding and technical requirements.

To ensure these devices can be used safely and effectively within our school environment, there are two conditions:

  1. Security Updates
The Chromebook must be receiving automatic security updates for the entire time it is being used in school. You can check a device’s update status at:
    https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en
  2. Safeguarding and Management Licence
The device must be enrolled in our Chromebook management system, which includes essential safeguarding, monitoring, and filtering tools. This licence can be purchased via ScoPay as a one off cost of £32. Once payment is made, your child will need to visit the IT team to have the software installed.

Should your child leave the school or no longer require the service, please contact the IT team to have the management software removed.

Please note that, as with all personal devices brought into school, the school cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage. We strongly recommend families consider this when making their decision and explore insurance options as appropriate.
