Teaching Vacancies
At King’s Academy Bay House, we believe Geography isn’t just a subject — it’s a way of seeing the world. From the shifting coastlines on our doorstep to the forces shaping global communities, we want every student to think critically, care deeply, and act wisely.
As a Teacher of Geography, you will deliver a stimulating curriculum that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of our planet. Our Key Stage 3 curriculum builds strong foundations in geographical knowledge and skills:
Year 7 topics include Tourism, My Local Place (with map skills), Pole to Pole and Rivers. Topics covered in Y7 provide a strong foundational knowledge for topics studied in the rest of KS3 and beyond.
Year 8 students explore Population, Weather and Climate and Coasts. Units include themed studies on the Middle East, Asia and Africa where pupils will be able to see the importance of countries beyond the UK; making them global citizens and their role within society.
Year 9 students study Tectonic Hazards, Development and Climatic Hazards and Climate Change. There is a focus on case studies, including the Nepal (2015) earthquake and Mount St Helens as well as Typhoon Haiyan. Pupils will explore the impacts significant natural events have on vulnerable populations.
At GCSE, pupils follow the AQA Geography specification, engaging with a diverse range of topics including urban issues and challenges, the changing economic world, coasts, rivers and resource management. At A Level, where the AQA specification is also followed, students study natural hazards, global systems and governance, changing places, coasts and population and the environment.
Fieldwork and Enrichment
Fieldwork is at the heart of our Geography curriculum. At KS3, pupils undertake onsite microclimate investigations and coastal fieldwork at nearby Stokes Bay. For GCSE, human fieldwork takes place in Portsmouth, where students assess the success of the regeneration at Gunwharf Quays, while physical fieldwork takes place at Avon Beach, investigating the effectiveness of coastal defences.
At A Level, recent fieldwork destinations have included Highcliffe Beach, Portsmouth, Swanage and West Wittering. Students use this fieldwork to collect data for their independent project on a topic of their choice.
We also offer an exciting range of Geography trips that bring learning to life — recent destinations include Sicily (2025), Iceland (2024) and UK-based trips to the Peak District and Pembrokeshire. Future trips to Cornwall and Iceland (2026) are already planned.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine enthusiasm for Geography and the power it has to change perspectives.
- Is eager to develop their teaching practice and contribute to a forward-thinking department.
- Values teamwork, reflection, and shared success.
- Believes in inclusive education and high aspirations for all learners.
Whether you’re an ECT ready to begin your journey or an experienced teacher seeking a new challenge, this is your chance to make a tangible impact in a school where Geography truly matters.
Join us — and help our students understand the world they live in, and the one they’ll help shape.
Inspire curiosity. Shape understanding. Lead learning that looks beyond the map.
